CPED (Community Planning & Economic Development) – Community meetings regarding overnight shelters

on

Staff from the Minneapolis Department of Community Planning and Economic Development (CPED) are currently evaluating changes to the City’s zoning ordinance for overnight shelters. The current regulations require that all new overnight shelters only be allowed accessory and incidental to an existing religious place of assembly. We are conducting a zoning study and are seeking participation from Minneapolis’ residents and business owners to discuss ideas, concerns, and opportunities to improve our existing regulations.

We have two upcoming community meetings that we would like to invite you to:

Monday, June 22, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Minneapolis American Indian Center

1530 East Franklin Avenue

Minneapolis, MN 55404

Monday, July 27, from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Hennepin County North Regional Library

1315 Lowry Avenue North

Minneapolis, MN 55411

There will be a presentation about people experiencing homelessness in Minneapolis and an overview of peer city research. Afterward, we will be hosting small group discussions.
