MPRB: Upper Harbor Terminal-Discussions at upcoming AFCAC meeting on February 23

I wanted to remind you that the Above the Falls Community Advisory Committee (AFCAC), the umbrella community organization for the overall Above the Falls areas, meets the last Tuesday of every month from 7-9pm in the Minnehaha Room at MPRB Headquarters.  These meetings are always public; all are invited.   AFCAC is composed of 30 appointments from various organizations and if your neighborhood has a vacant seat at this time you may want to see if there is someone interested in attending.

While we’ll be doing community engagement  in a variety of places, with the beginning of the Upper Harbor Terminal project (and upcoming 26th Avenue North Pier project and other projects within the Above the Falls area – more on those later) we expect a lot of interaction with AFCAC in the next couple of years.  It’s a great place to get river oriented updates (outside of City and Park Board news) and they would welcome new members and more community representation.

At the upcoming meeting on February 23rd, MPRB and City staff have asked AFCAC members to provide input on some of our draft community engagement materials.  As planners and staff it can be hard for us to look at our materials with fresh eyes sometimes.  Since AFCAC is a large community group we thought it would be helpful to both get their input on the UHT, and their reaction to the materials (if it is clear what we are asking, etc).  After Thursday we should be able to provide more details about the agenda, but wanted to give you an earlier notice.

Friends of the Mississippi River is currently providing administrative support for AFCAC.  Questions for AFCAC can be directed to Alicia Uzarek at auzarek@fmr.org, 651-222-2193 x29.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thank you,  Kate
