National drug take back day

Saturday, April 28, 2018

This Saturday is the DEA’s national drug take back day. An annual event that aims to provide convenient medication collection options all around the country.

According to the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.4 million Americans abused controlled prescription drugs, and 70% of prescription drug abusers say that they obtained their supply of prescription medications from friends and family. Properly disposing of prescription medication, such as opioids, can significantly decrease the likelihood of individuals having access to these highly addictive drugs.

In Hennepin County, we offer medication collection services year-round, but we are encouraging all residents to take a few minutes on Saturday to clean out their medicine cabinets of all unwanted prescription medications and properly dispose of them.
